Where it All Began
Discover how it all began, the early days, and the spark that ignited our adventure.
The first thought of purchasing a yacht was around 2014. However we quickly realised our lives were a total blur—of meetings, traffic, school runs, homework, and weekday dinners—leaving very little time to even dream. We had chartered catamarans twice before in Greece 2017 and Croatia 2019 and we absolutely loved it; however, it was always with an amazing crew, so we never did any real work. Our only task was to sit back and enjoy the shimmering sun on our skin with a cocktail in hand and the beauty of a powerful ocean beneath us, which we later learned is more powerful, scary, and beautiful than anything you can imagine.

That being said, the dream of owning our own catamaran remained with us. When our globe was impacted by Covid‑19 early in 2020, we figured that the safest place to be would be on a yacht at sea. This sparked a strong conversation between my future Captain and me about life on board, and right then we opened another bottle of red wine and began turning that dream into reality. From that point on, all our free time was spent drinking wine and diving into research. Plans were made to rearrange our lives so we could fulfil our dream of a life on board, escape the corporate chaos, and enjoy a calmer, healthier lifestyle. With our children grown and slowly leaving home, the timing felt right. Though nervous about this huge change—especially since neither of us knew much about yachting—our excitement and determination prevailed. We explored different catamarans, manufacturers, sizes, and countless extras—some essential, others mere creature comforts. (I’ll share more about the fitments in a separate post.) Eventually, after many months of intense research (thanks largely to my amazing husband), we decided on a Leopard 50 by Robertson and Caine.
