My take on this sleepy town

As our time in Lüderitz draws to a close, I thought I should give you a little insight into this perculiar little town.

Lüderitz is a tiny place, and gives me the feeling that time has stood still for about 50 years. Aside from the very slow creep of a little modern technology, like the occasional credit card machine, not much has changed. Most establishments still run on cash alone. So if you're without actual cash notes, getting by can be a bit of a challenge. While we're on the topic of quirks, the food scene here leaves much to be desired. It is surprisingly mediocre, and despite my best efforts, I can't quite figure out why, I did expect more from the food since this country has a strong German past. Maybe it's just one of those mysteries that make this town what it is.

What Lüderitz may lack in the food scene, it makes up for in heart. The people here from all walks of life are truly lovely. Warm, kind and genuinely friendly, this gives this little town a unique charm. As we know it's always about the people, you can be anywhere in the world and if you have good people, then you are in an awesome place.

Something that really stands out for me, is the town's immaculately clean streets. Whether you're in the heart of town or wandering around the outskirts, everything is spotless. The locals take immense pride in keeping their little corner of the world pristine, and it shows. As we walked around here I found it quite odd how few people there are on the streets, very few during the day and almost no one at night. So it turned out that we were the only weirdos wandering around at night.

The yacht club like most places in this sleepy town, was pretty basic, but friendly and had pretty much everything we needed as sailors, cold beer, food and good showers.
