The Joys of Nature Part 2

The Joys of Nature Part 2

We have had an incredible month here, and I can truly say that Cayman has delivered for us in every way. In true Island style the people are wonderful, friendly, helpful and kind, this in a world that normally feels fuelled by caffeine and chaos, it is very refreshing to know that when we explore these islands, it really is a bit of an escape from mainland reality. Even this Island that is incredibly wealthy and the currency is stronger than the US Dollar, people are just calmer and generally nicer, than big cities and mainland.

We rented a car for our last two weekends so had some extra experiences, one of them taking a tour to Bioluminescent Bay, which was absolutely phenomenal and hard for the mind to understand, on the surface of the water you see the beautiful hues of blue, but when you put your goggles on and get under the water, you are transported to a world where Tinker Bell may have had a fairy dust explosion, the view from below the water surface, in the black of night is simply mind blowing, and a true reflection of how the night ski and sea almost become one. As you move your body through the water you are surrounded by millions of stars, this can only be seen from below the surface. A very important part of swimming with all this fairy dust in Bio Bay, is to keep your feet off the ground, as you would disturb the jelly fish, and those little stingers are not part of the Tinker Bell fairytale. This is all happening in about 4-5 feet of water, so you can understand that this was complicated for Eric, being well over 6 feet tall and as you know by now his feet get in the way. Thanks to a couple of pool noodles the problem was solved, and we were able to have the most gorgeous experience.

Unfortunately, no photos so you will just have to see it in your creative eye. Our guide had told us that the go pro would not get it under water and the iPhone might pick up little snips of blue, from the surface, so we were out of luck on the photo op and decided to just enjoy the moment and try to get it engraved into our memory banks.

However there was Stingray City and Coral Garden now here, the go pro worked like a charm, although to be fair we are still figuring out how it works, This was our first attempt so don't judge the extremely poor photography.

The stingrays are just so gorgeous and graceful to watch, the only downside, is that I feel they are handled and touched too much by people, I always feel a little sensitive about this kind of thing.  Although you are out in the ocean so they can effectively swim away at any stage. We chose not to be with the guide in this instance and just swam freely with them and let them touch us if they wanted to, which they did and that was awesome.

A little further along, our true highlight presented itself, snorkelling in the coral garden and enjoying the beautiful variety of fish and plant life on the ocean floor, named coral garden because it is actually not a reef but rather a garden coming off the ocean floor. Again don't judge the photo here. Then of course there were the stingrays here too, enjoying the garden as much as us.
