Day 3 The Drama
Today started rather uneventful, got our usual things done in the morning, breakfast, coffee etc. The guys then decided to put up the main sail, wind was perfect for that. It got half way up and came right back down 😩😳
This is the story that was never shared on our whatsapp group as I was just to angry to share 😂 but now a year later we can laugh about it, I did always know that the day would come where I would find it more amusing than infuriating.
The main sail has been a struggle for us literally since the day we bought the boat, the struggle being, getting it up easily and getting it down being the biggest nightmare of all, remember we are very new to sailing. This day though, the 23 of March had to be the worst of them all. Probably the most angry I have been while sailing 🤬
The guys are up at the sail fiddling and unzipping etc, basically getting the cloth ready to be raised. This is something I cannot actually do on this size boat, as I have a major heigh disadvantage and my short ass does not even come close to the main. So I am at the helm working the sheets, while they struggle with the beast. As the sail starts to raise, it gets tangled in the lazy jacks, my husband, predictably erupts with frustration. This main sail is a constant war in our lives and today is no different.
For those that are unfamiliar with sailing - When you take up a main sail or take down a main sail you turn the boat directly into the wind, and then you hoist it up. Now in this particular case due to my husbands extreme frustration, he decides now is the time to experiment and do something different, he tells me F#€%K this turn us into the opposite direction wind on our stern....WAIT WHAT ?? very confused and a little irritated, gritting my teeth, I do as the Captain says. They continue to struggle.
Next thing he comes down and is at the helm with me....Grabs the reefing line that is on the right and pulls it over to the left hand side winch, because the right winch is occupied by the main sheet.
Right there the clutch literally explodes and shatters into a million pieces part of it hitting me in the face. As you can imagine my temper is now over the top, but Lord help everyone as Tracy losing her temper is not a pretty thing, thankfully I found the inner strength to save my mouth for another moment in time, this too was a lesson.

Back to the genoa who is giving us a great 6 knots from a 18 knot apparent wind. The swell is pretty large this evening, coming from a comfortable direction so not unpleasant at all, the moon is shinning bright and the water is looking pleasant.

Well I was never told not to have the wind from behind and great things are only ever discovered if you go there and fail, so sometimes we might fail and sometimes we might find something new that no one thought of :)
