Day 4 My Life Lesson
What have I learnt since we have been sailing, besides the obvious which is sailing. ⛵️
Absolutely nothing should take too much strain....for sailors that would mean your sails, the boom, your winches, sheets, clutches, so in totality you don't want any part of your boat to be under too much pressure because it will break, and lives and asset will be at risk.
I have realized that the same principle should be applied to life, everything is about having just the right balance something I believe every person battles to achieve and maintain, in this uncertain world we live in. I certainly have never had the right balance, always too much of one thing and too little of another.
Living in such extremely close quarters...No matter how big or small your boat is, it can become very confined and challenging since there really is no where to go and hide, a friend to go visit, a pub a walk in the woods or on the beach.. Then on top of all of that when the pond gets rough, or things go wrong, everyone has to be on their very best, communicating effectively and working to your best ability for the safety of everyone including the asset.
Lesson that I have learnt is to hold your tongue when it's unnecessary to speak too many truths in that moment, maintain control at all times of your tongue, just like we have to control the boat we too need to control ourselves. The only difference between land and sea, is that at sea our lives depend on it, on land you can walk away from the situation.
Some how I think people really get into each others heads when you are so far from civilisation. Blow ups in the middle of here there and no where are not constructive in any way or form, so breath and relax we don't always need to force ourselves to be right.
I have learnt to treat situations a little softer in order to maintain harmony.
Respect each others differences and frustrations, we are all floating in this big pond together with a common goal.....get there safe, happy and still loving each other.
These are my thoughts, lessons and observations from out on the pond.
Please note we have not had any real blow ups, come close a few times but we have managed to maintain calm and effective communication, this is key no matter if you are 2 people or 5 people sailing.
