Purgatorio - A Bar Like no Other

You all know how I tend to go on about food and food art, well this time we are gonna talk about drink art and the most amazing mixology bar we have ever come across.

The name being Purgutoria (Portuguese for Purgatory) being Roman Catholic I did have some weird feelings about this, should I be confessing or ordering something long and cold 😉

Well let me tell you, this is cocktail art at its very finest. from the moment you arrive, it looks like you have made a grave error in judgment, as all you see is a shady burger restaurant and then there it is a tiny little side passage leading you to the intended destination 😏 Once you enter the zone, you are immediately hit with an impression that will last. Consider it weird or interesting or simply just a little fun and play on words, which ever works in your mind, we found it to be quite spectacular and went back again with the rest of the family.

The entire place has a look and feel of something that could be dark and seedy, set in a theme that could easily be Paris in the early 1900's yet at the same time extremely modern, funky and actually quite sofisticated. With a mixologist that was a magician on stage show casing a magic that you cannot quite understand, try to immerse yourself into the photos to grasp the concept. If you are ever in Salvador this is a place you absolutely have to visit, the small food tastings are also absolutely delicious. 

As our life goes there is a second act to this show, so besides the gorgeous and delicious cocktails, right as we are about to leave we ended up chatting to a couple sitting in the lounge area, and of course stayed until closing. Now ready to get our usual uber ride home, Gabriel walks out and says "no common I will give you a ride back" of course once again probably a little reckless for our age, we accepted the offer from total strangers. 😳 I mean we could seriously have been sold as sex slaves and may have been non the wiser in the morning 😂 but I guess at this stage of life we are pretty decent judges of character, as we lived to tell the tale with no trauma and only fun. They came back to the boat and we had some more drinks and the fun continued till the wee hours of the morning.

What do you know, much to our surprise,  the next day Gabriel and his business partner Lucas both show up at the boat, they are from São Paulo might I add,  I guess this could be the reason for their perfect English. That evening is filled with so much fun and laughter and sharing of stories, the crazy stories that these two young men shared had us sitting at the edge of our seat like a good movie or book that you just can't put down. Late night Pizza and some more cocktails and laughter, till it was eventually time to call it a night, oh and BTW they tell us they are lawyers. 

The early hours of the next morning I wake up a little panicked as if I had some how dropped my bullshit guard, thinking just maybe my old age is messing with me and there is something wrong with this picture, yes I can be a professor of doom. 😩 After a day out, we may come back to the dock and the boat has been robbed, I mean they are both charming enough to get passed anyone asking a question, or worse still the entire boat could be gone, I mean a vessels this size, does not require keys to start and depart, 😳 you just hit a button and off you go. Right at that moment Eric and I obsessively dive into some online stalking.

It turns out that they are both highly educated and accomplished lawyers, one of them has even written a book for government related law, both of them have a list of accolades that is rather impressive. So long story short there is clearly nothing to be concerned about and the boat is as safe as we are. With all of that being said, I was comfortable enough to allow Makyla to have a night out watching some local football with Gabriel, a team by the way she still supports today.
